Edinburgh Sports club is a thriving rackets club in the heart of Edinburgh’s West End just a short brisk walk from Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle. Having set up courts in 2014, they rightly pride themselves on being “The Home of Scottish Padel”.
The setting is hard to beat, hidden away on an island in the middle of the Water of Leith World Heritage site. The facilities themselves, meanwhile, are both comprehensive and quirky, with 6 Squash courts, 3 floodlit Tennis courts, a Hardball Doubles court, first class Table-Tennis facility — and now 3 floodlit Padel courts as well.
It should come as no surprise that the Edinburgh Sports Club are spearheading Padel movement nationwide — they did the same for squash in the 1930s. These famous pioneers have been central to the rise in the number of Padel clubs in Scotland, and have been quick to establish regular inter-club fixtures.
The club also hosts tournaments for LTA Padel and so welcome some of the best players through the doors, which is pretty special. Here is Juani Mieres, formerly world no.1, at the club.
Membership is open to all, and the club has a reputation of being friendly and easy to integrate into. If you don’t live too far away, there really is no better place!
