Gloucestershire take two of three Over 60 UK PADEL County championships titles
Durham & Cleveland are Men’s Champions
Rocket Padel hosted the best players in the UK at the weekend for the first over 60 age group UK PADEL County Championships. With a scarcity of senior events the weekend felt like it had been a long time coming and it did not disappoint.
The mixed competition kicked off proceedings and Suffolk and Surrey battled hard in their semi-finals but Gloucester and Yorkshire were the worthy finalists. Yorkshire were relentless in the Champs shoot out against Surrey. The final couldn’t have been any tighter once again down to a thrilling champs tie break and Gloucestershire edging it 10-7 in front of a warm party crowd.
On the Sunday Durham & Cleveland were the outstanding team in the Men’s competition beating Essex in a quality final. Essex were deserved finalists after edging of a thriller of a Champions playoff with Surrey Men in the Semi which went all the way to the wire and was played in a wonderful spirit with the large supporting crowd in raptures after neither side would give up the ‘play for serve point’. Durham & Cleveland were ruthless, efficient and great to watch on their route to the final and they didn’t relent against Essex in a classy final, 2-0 and taking the their place as the worth winners of the first ever UK PADEL Over 60 Men’s County Champions.
A golden weekend for Gloucester Women was completed as they won a Championship shoot out in the final, against a Surrey team who had beaten them in a nail biting 10-8 champs shoot out in the group stages. This entire event was a joy to watch with Essex and Yorkshire coming close in the semi finals, before Gloucester turned the tables on Surrey in the final to become the first UK PADEL Over 60’s Women’s County Championship.
