Over 40 UK PADEL County Championships
The talented Women and Men of Yorkshire combined to become the first Over 40 UK PADEL County Mixed Champions, and their Women’s team and Men’s team were runners up in the other events. The cries of “Yorkshire Yorkshire Yorkshire” ringing around the spectacular Rocket Padel Bristol would have been even louder, it was so close to a clean sweep, but Surrey Women and The Channel Islands Men had other ideas.
The live streaming court, the Slazenger Padel court, had Champions tie breaks in almost every match that was played on it, exciting to watch and clearly nail biting to participate in. Compelling conclusions in each of the finals as players kept their County in the game until the last. Yorkshire Men had been in control all weekend but just slipped up at the last with the game getting away from them at 8-8 to lose the next two points to a very composed Channel Islands team
(The Two Champions tie break shoot outs are tagged in the comments so you can click straight to them)
Surrey Women turned for the help of the former World number 3 squash player Alison Waters in their Champions shoot out against Yorkshire as Surrey kept control of the net, and ended the Yorkshire Women’s dominance of the County Championships events.
All the results and a catch up on the live action that was streamed across the weekend by UK PADEL can be found on this page.
Tournament Director Mark Ayers said “A hugely enjoyable weekend could not have concluded in a more dramatic style with all three highly competitive finals going into a Champions shoot out. It is very encouraging to see the quality of padel increasing at every UK PADEL County Championship event. The newer counties to the sport, with less courts can now be seen to be pushing the more established counties harder in the group stages. It is also heartening to see the counties of Kent and Hampshire competing for the first time along with the women of Suffolk. I am very much looking forward to the Over 60 event in September (7th/8th)
A big thank you to Back In Action who once again provided expert services utilising The Mobiliser System which stretches and bends the spine over a 15 minute sequence to help the players create a positive circle of greater movement. And the championships were played using the no1 ball from Slazenger which helped give players a fantastic match play experience in the controlled and excellently prepared conditions at Rocket Padel.
Thanks to Marcus and the whole Rocket team for preparing the venue so well and to all the players for continuing to lift these events up with ever increasingly levels of performance on the court, and camaraderie off the court.
A reminder that next up is the Over 60’s UK PADEL County Championships in September and then the UK PADEL Schools and Alumni Championships which is open to registration here as well.
ARE YOU UK PADEL’S BEST COUNTY? NOTHING BUT PADEL.
