Huddersfield Lawn Tennis Club

Huddersfield was the epicentre of padel in the UK becoming only the third padel club behind Rye and Chelse Harbour Club to install their Padel courts in 2011, at one stage it had 50% of the padel courts in the UK. Huddersfield Lawn Tennis and Squash Club was the first club in the UK to take the incredibly bold step of digging up grass tennis courts and replacing them with Padel, and some have followed since and many more will as well. Whilst on the surface of it this is defacing lawn tennis, it was obviously a measured attempt to grow the game of tennis overall which is the key thing.

Huddersfield LTC were also were an early adopter of the need to open up a club and attract new people so let’s give you a bit more back story about Huddersfield Lawn Tennis club, the club has a reputation for pioneering new sporting innovations. The 127-year-old club, which has 1,000 members, was the first in the region to build indoor tennis courts and one of the first in the country to introduce racketball before the World Squash federation killed it off by calling it squash57.

Huddersfield is the home of rugby League and one of the legendary football teams in English league history, and Huddersfield Lawn Tennis Club now almost called out as the home of Padel in the UK in a long tradition of growing sports.
