Every sport has a time when it came of age and for UK Padel that moment was November 2020, when the LTA became the governing national body of Padel officially recognised Padel as a discipline of tennis in the UK.
It’s yet to be seen how that moment becomes a movement as most of the emphasis in the initial phase of developing Padel appears to be on private international operators, and the LTA has tightened it’s grip on loans for Padel courts to be developed in clubs insisting they are not built on Tennis courts, but rather increasing the number of overall tennis and Padel courts.  Â
‘Tennis opened up’ is one of the Key messages from the LTA in recent years and LTA Padel walk the walk as the 3 covered padel courts on Roehampton lane at the National tennis centre are available to anyone to book 7 days in advance, here https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/PadelNTC
The courts host prime position as pretty much the first thing you see as you drive through the entrance gates. LTA Padel hosted the first ever professional Padel event in the UK in August 2022, The FIP RISE LONDON PADEL OPEN, and the UK Padel team were there to produce the filming and live stream for, and you can watch some of the highlights of that on the UK PADEL RECAST channel https://share.recast.app/u/5RBeX?referrer=5RBeX
Or you can take a quick look at the entire last 16 through to the finals coverage in this timelapse video here:Â
Is it a club? There are lots of players who treat it like a home club as there are regular events, like coaching and event takeovers that players can be part of. Not only is The National Tennis Centre a great place to play padel yourself, you will invariably see someone half decent or from the GB squad training there, and the standard on the court next door to you can be slightly distracting, So perhaps build in an extra 10/15 minutes to enjoy seeing top UK Padel while you are thereÂ
The centre also hosts the National championships, and for the second year in a row the home team in the men’s and Women’s competitions were triumphant. Do go to the National Tennis to play Padel and expect fast courts and 364 days a year play, don’t go to the National Tennis centre to run out of the court and hit it back in …. Without running into another court as there isn’t quite enough space for out of court play…Â
