The West Hants Club

Formed in 1926, The West Hants Club is the premium rackets club in Bournemouth. Over the years it has played host to such illustrious names as Fred Perry, Jaroslav Drobny and Roy Emerson to mention just three.

As well as hosting the British Hardcourt Championships between1928 and 1983, the Club was also a leader as far as the development of modern tennis was concerned and in 1968 the first ‘open’ tournament in the world was held at the Club.

It’s present members reinforce its prestige, among whom are Mark Cox, John Feaver and Virginia Wade (Wimbledon champion, 1977). A £5 million rebuild in 1999, meanwhile, has seen state of the art facilities a reality for its members for nearly 25 years.

The club currently has internationally renowned clay tennis courts as well as an indoor tennis centre, four squash courts, a state of the art gymnasium, two air-conditioned fitness studios, an indoor heated swimming pool, a dedicated High Performance Gym for elite athletes — and, as of 2018, a Padel court!

West Hants has quickly developed a coaching scheme, as well as regular club nights, leagues and tournaments. They have beginner sessions too for anyone looking to dip their toes in the Padel waters. All these things make this club one of the most exciting places to play Padel today.
