The Movement

Movement in a lot of sports is seen as a make-or-break skill that doesn’t get talked about enough, so what can you do to ensure your movement is up to a high standard in Padel?

Given that you work in pairs, to have good movement you need to be able to understand your partner, and this takes practice…

Moving backwards and forwards is the key to Padel, you want to make sure you get to the net as many times as possible, why? Well, 90% of shots in Padel are won at the net!

So, if you want to get good at Padel and win your matches, make sure to get to the net.

When at the back of the court you will most likely be defending and at every opportunity, you are trying to pin the opponent further and further back.

You want to stay at the net as long as possible, try to refrain from standing down and if your partner can reach or return the ball then keep your guard nice and high.

Communication becomes even more important as the point progresses, nearly all players split themselves into left and right and will tackle their channel but at times it can split to a front and back given the situation, it’s key to always adapt to the best position to give you the chance of regaining the net position.

When on the defensive, one of you may be dealing with the current ball in the corner of the court whilst your teammate needs to move and anticipate their next action, covering the middle of the court to cover any open spaces.

Remember to always be on your toes – making very small bounces – this will make sure you can react even quicker to any returns.

Movement and communication work in tandem, good movement will see you win more points due to being able to fill vital gaps on the court.

Now it’s your turn…get out there on court and practice  – perhaps try and see where you local court is… Click Here
