Rules of Padel

WHAT IS PADEL?

  • Padel is a form of Tennis.
  • Same scoring as tennis , played as best of 3 sets.
  • A padel court is about 25% smaller than a tennis court.
  • The court is made up of steel mesh and glass walls which you can hit the ball off  in a similar way to squash.
  • The serve is under arm.
  • Unlike in tennis where as the service in tennis is a more complex skill to learn – you need to be able to master the serve to progress in Tennis, where as in Padel it is considered more of a transition to the rest of the game.
  • And padel is very sociable – as it is always played in doubles.
  • Where there is a major difference from tennis is Padel is not about Power, it is about control which makes it seriously fun. And I mean addictively fun. And you could generally say that the rallies go on for longer.
  • Physical power can be important in tennis to move the length and width o the court while hitting powerful shots. Or padel it can be shorter faster movements and changes o direction, and good reflex.
  • The racquets in padel are also are short handed and have a foam core ( firbe glass carbon outer shell) shorter than tennis racquets and do not have strings in.
  • The strings on a tennis racquet allow you to create extra speed, where as the padel foam core is about creating control in the confines of the enclosed walls.
  • The net is lower in Padel than tennis – by an inch – which again encourages longer rallies. ( 0.914 meteres high at the centre versus 0.88 metres for a padel net.
  • There is not an easier racquet sport to pick up than Padel and all the family can play it.
